Healthy Families Celebrate Spring

Spring officially came to Healthy Families on April 9, when the Family Support Specialists hosted a spring fling parent group.  The weather cooperated by supplying plenty of sunshine for the outdoor activities.  The staff of Healthy Families assembled a variety of useful, skill-building and developmentally-based activities.

The event was held at the Cannelton American Legion from 11:00 – 1:00.  Over 50 parents and children were in attendance for the activity.  The day included a presentation by Mary Talmadge, Purdue Extension Family Nutrition Program Assistant, educating the families on ways to use the Angel Food Ministries food basket.  Door prizes included two of these food baskets.

A lunch of nutritious finger foods was served for the children and their parents.  Family portraits were taken as keepsakes of the occasion.

Family interactive activities included making wind socks, dying eggs and planting flowers.  Each child received a basket for the grand finale Easter egg hunt.

Healthy Families is administered by Lincoln Hills Development Corporation.  Program services begin prenatally or at the birth of the child.  Services are voluntary and are provided in the family home.  The program encourages the building of nurturing relationships in a family, provides parenting skills education, promotes healthy child development and positive parent/child relationships and develops “healthy” families by building on the family’s strengths.  The local program collaborates with the Women Infant and Children (WIC) Clinic, Perry County Health Department, Perry County Department of Child Services, Perry County Memorial Hospital , Purdue Extension Office, and the Perry County OB/GYN Associates.  For further information, contact Christal Moskos at 547-3435, extension 259.
